Doha, Qatar: Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) held an awareness campaign to raise awareness among workers about most prevalent cancers.

The campaign attracted nearly 1,800 workers in a number of medical facilities and in several health centres including in Mesaimeer, Fereej Abdulaziz, Al Jamila and Zikreet, and in private companies in cooperation with Qatar Red Crescent.

The campaign commenced in June to raise awareness on skin and liver cancers and concluded in August with blood cancer awareness. The awareness campaign was in several languages including Arabic, English, Urdu and Hindi.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of QCS Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani said that such awareness campaigns are held in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 which gave a high priority to healthcare and stressed on the importance of spreading awareness among all community groups, especially workers through launching intensive periodical campaigns that aim to spread awareness on cancer and methods of prevention and early detection.

He added that since its establishment the QCS has been raising awareness on cancer and methods of prevention and early detection. Over the past 25 years, QCS has expanded the base of its beneficiaries, in addition to reaching out to all community segments in their recognition of people’s right to enjoy mental and physical health.

Dr. Al Thani stressed the importance of encouraging people to pursue a healthy lifestyle among all community segments, especially that 40 percent of cancer cases are preventable through pursuing a healthy lifestyle and 40 percent of cases are curable once they are early detected.
