Doha: Certificates were presented to six Qatari research trainees on completion of Biomedical Research Training Programme for Nationals.
The annual programme gives talented Qatari graduates opportunity to spend six months in Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar’s (WCMC-Q) laboratories, learning scientific research and administrative skills.
Dr Khaled Machaca, Associate Dean for Research, presented certificates to interns Maryam Al Dosari, Rouda Al Qahtani, Noof Al Kuwari, Maha Al Dosari, Aisha Al Qahtani and Sharefa Al Mannai.
He said: “I offer my congratulations to these highly talented young researchers for showing perseverance and dedication needed to complete the challenging course. They have demonstrated intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning research and administrative skills that will prove useful as they take the next step in their careers in research. We are proud to have been able to make a positive contribution to building human capacity in scientific research in Qatar as part of Qatar National Vision 2030.”
This year marked the fifth instalment of the programme, which has provided training for 24 participants. Interns learn research skills, becoming proficient in practical bench work, project design and research administration, among other competencies.
The programme aims to give talented Qataris opportunity to gain skills and experiences in a challenging and rewarding research environment, helping them establish careers in fields related to biomedical research. It is coordinated with Qatar Foundation’s Qatar Science Leadership Programme.
Online applications for next year’s programme are open from mid-September to October, with dates to be announced soon on webpage http://qatar-weill.cornell.edu/research/traniningprograms/internship.html
