Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued various safety measures for citizens and residents to enhance their security from scams and cyberattacks in the country.
On its Twitter handle, the ministry made note of numerous signs that indicate an individual’s device is under cyber threats.
MoI noted that fraudulent activities like unauthorised logins are poised to take place within the applications. The ministry also points out that the battery may drain out sooner than usual, which signals the occurrence of a cyber-hack activity.
Another sign that shows the risk is when the device’s performance suddenly drops while in use.
MoI stated that individuals must be aware of the cyberattack that may cause when the device becomes excessively hot without much use and for no reason.
Cyber hacks can also happen when changes have been made to the device’s settings without the permission of the user, the ministry said.
MoI advised that citizens and residents must be aware of these signs, which in return will help the user prevent cyber-related perils.
According to a recent report by Trend Micro, a global cybersecurity leader, Qatar averted nearly 23 million cybersecurity threats last year.
The report entitled ‘Rethinking and Strategies’ said that more than 4.1 million malicious emails and close to 8 million malware attacks were detected.
Analysts also stated that Trend Micro prevented nearly 5.1 million internal and external attacks in the country.
In a statement, Assad Arabi, Managing Director, Gulf Cluster, Trend Micro said that “Qatar’s organisations have resiliently battled through the pandemic and accelerated digital transformation, but still face a challenging threat landscape and more sophisticated attacks by bad actors.”
During the first quarter of 2023, the Public Relations Department at the MoI elucidated several methods to implement cyber-related risks through a webinar.
The authorities also warned regarding the aftermath penalties of carrying out cybercrimes in the country. The penalties in Law No. 14 of 2014 state that the Cyber Crime Prevention Law in Qatar varies depending on offenses committed including imprisonment and fines.
