With Eid Al Adha just around the corner, several municipalities at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) have intensified their inspection drives on food establishments. The campaigns aim to ensure food safety regulations and to raise awareness.

The MME is keen to ensure the safety of food sold at outlets and its compliance with health standards. More inspection visits will focus on slaughterhouses and butcheries to determine if they adhere to the health requirements of Law No. (8) of 1990 on the regulation of human food control.

Inspections will also include commercial complexes, including fish, vegetables, consumer sections, and sweets and chocolate shops. During Eid days, special inspection campaigns would be carried out on eateries.

Al Daayen Municipality carried out inspection campaigns on food establishments, including bakeries and pastries. During the campaign, the Municipality closed one bakery shop for violating the provision of Law No. (8) of 1990 on the regulation of human food control.

Also, Al Wakra Municipality launched an intensive inspection campaign on food establishments as part of preparations for Eid Al Adha.

The preparations also included the central abattoir of Al Wakra, providing a sufficient number of veterinarians to check the sacrificial animals.

The campaign resulted in issuing four violations with a recommendation for the administrative closure of three food stores. Also, eight samples were collected from food outlets and sent to the central laboratory to check if they are fit for human consumption.

The Municipalities provide a high-quality veterinary service in abattoirs through a team of inspectors and veterinarians to monitor all meat shops. The veterinarians also check the imported animals and destroy the ones unfit for human consumption.

The Ministry always advised people to get their animals slaughtered only at abattoirs, not at home, to ensure meat safety as abattoirs have veterinary doctors to check animals.
