For those wishing to stay away from the kitchen, restaurants are there offering sadya packages.
Expats from the Indian state of Kerala is celebrating the Vishu festival tomorrow.
As festivals are, Vishu is also about bonding, nostalgia and feasting.
A sumptuous midday meal called 'Sadya' (also spelled in English as Sadhya) is a major part of the celebration.
The rice-feast, consisting of a variety of and vegetarian dishes, is usually served on a banana leaf.
A typical Sadya can have about 24–28 dishes served as a single course. The larger ones can have over 64 or more items.
Ingredients can vary depending which place of the Kerala one comes from.
Almost invariable ‘commons’ are: Rice, pickle, daal, aviyal, koottukari etc.
Hypermarkets and groceries that cater to the Indians have sold the food materials and other paraphernalia by tonnes and families have stocked them in advance.
For those wishing to stay away from the kitchen, restaurants are there offering sadya packages.
That, they are offering in a competitive manner as every year.
The competition, this time around, not about the price, but the number of items or side dishes they offer.
The medium price is closer to QR30, though the costlier ones are priced up to 50.
