Doha: A number of the people of the constituency number eight have urged authorities concerned to provide a wedding-hall similar to present in Al Wakra and other places.

This came during a meeting held at the residence of Sheikha bint Yousuf Hasan Al Jufairi, candidate for the elections of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) at its sixth session.

The meeting was attended by a large number of voters and reviewed a number of proposals and the most important projects that will be adopted by the candidate during the coming period.

Al Jufairi spoke about her previous tenure as the member of CMC and the real achievements on ground in terms of services and infrastructure, and lighting.

Al Jufairi said in her speech that the aim of the meeting is to listen to the people, and their proposals, and to exchange ideas with them about the next phase.

She said that the interaction of the authorities concerned with the CMC members has improved a lot and there is a positive response to the demands of the members of the CMC, and task of a municipal member is raise the voice of citizens.

She confirmed that her electoral manifesto aims at establishing a wedding-hall and construct pedestrian bridges after the approval of a pedestrian bridge at Lulu Hypermarket intersection and another bridge at the intersection of The Mall.

The program also includes works for increasing the number of kindergarten and schools. As well as, she said, the establishment of football stadiums is on her priority list.

“Among other important things in our electoral program include opening of Al Meera branch and more fuel stations in areas like Nuaija (44) area and Old Airport,” she said, adding that those were the demands by the people of the area.

A unanimous demand from the attendees of the meeting was setting up a wedding hall in the central Doha area, solving the problem of traffic congestion at Old Airport Commercial Street, and removing small roundabouts which they claimed were cause of traffic obstruction.

With regard to the requirement of establishing a wedding hall, Al Jufairi said that she had submitted a proposal to the CMC, which was signed by a number of municipal members and in the reply authorities concerned offered to allocate a land plot in Al Aziziya. “But we want a place in Doha,” she added.

About the traffic congestion at Old Airport Commercial Street, she noted that it is among her electoral program and she had made a proposal to upgrade it to single-way road to ease increasing traffic congestion.
Al Jufairi stressed the need to complete street lighting of roads in all areas of the constituency number eight and expressed her thanks and appreciation to all those who responded to her invitation.

For their part, the attendees expressed their appreciation to the efforts made by Al Jufairi despite limited powers of  CMC members. A lot has been done for the constituency which has a positive impact in the development and improvement of the level of services, especially the maintenance of internal roads and lighting and the work of beautification and hygiene.

They also expressed their well wishes for Al Jufairi to continue and complete the ongoing projects.

“There is a significant improvement in the performance of the CMC in the last tenure,” said a citizen, Mohamed Al Amouri from the constituency eight.

“With regard to the constituency number eight, it has developed significantly compared in previous years and we hope to witness the best in the future,” he added.

Another citizen, Ali Hassan said” “The CMC performance in last five tenures witnessed considerable progress. The members of the CMC understood their role better during this period.”

Regarding demands of increasing powers of the CMC, he said that the powers come with awareness and that the Council in the future will witness more power. Al Jufairi earlier held a meeting with the women in which she explained to them her electoral campaign program, the most important achievements and the work on the rest of the demands in the event of success.
