"Our participation this year in Darb El Saai is far better as compared to the last year because we have added many new activities like planting and minor engineering activities through which we are giving some information to children on how to become engineers. The aim is to encourage children to adopt field of engineering as our country needs such specialists", said Jamal Matar Al Nuaimi, Director of Doha Municipality while talking to The Peninsula.
"We have also another activity which is called “Small Monitor” which educates visitors on how to choose food items fit for human consumption, and which are harmful to human health. We are also educating them on reporting violations", Al Nuaimi added.
He said the focus was more on visitors in the age bracket of 8 years to 16 years and also their parents. “Including all age groups makes the propagation of message easier and fast,” he added.
On Doha Municipality's inspection visits, he said: “The Doha Municipality's inspection visits are conducted on daily basis and inspectors catch violations every day, and most violations nowadays are about food and technical violations are related to buildings", Al Nuaimi said.
The activity of Small Monitor includes many tips to consumers such as teaching them that they should buy frozen or chilled foodstuff at the end of their shopping and read the expiry date of the product when buying, said another official of the Municipality.
“As soon as you come home, you have to put the frozen foods in the refrigerator and the buyers should keenly read all information given on the label of each food product because this practice will help them know the ingredients and types of product,” he added.
