Doha: The US Embassy’s Public Affairs Section implements small grants to strengthen ties between the United States and Qatar through cultural exchange programmes that highlight shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation.
American environmentalist Jose Saucedo, a resident of Qatar, is one of the US embassy’s grantees for 2022. Saucedo advocates for the environment and volunteerism and is one of Qatar’s most recognised activists. He has led Doha Environmental Actions Project (DEAP) since 2018, a grassroots organisation that has brought thousands of volunteers together, including hundreds of Americans living in Qatar, to collect tons of debris through regular beach and desert cleanups throughout the country.
In addition to facilitating beach cleanups, Saucedo raises environmental awareness among thousands of people of all ages through informational presentations at schools and community events.
In honour of Qatar Sustainability Week 2022, Saucedo brought three renowned artists together to paint a massive mural in the heart of Doha in a unique collaboration between three artists: Huda Basahal from Qatar, Serbian artist and expat Dimitrije Bugarski, and visiting American artist Jason Keam.
