Doha: Promising Qatari teenager Sultan Khalid Al Kuwari clinched the U-13 title at the WTT Youth Contender table tennis tournament after a thrilling win over compatriot Rawad Al Nasser 3-2 in the final at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Oman.
Both the talented Qatari players showed top form in a sea saw match, with Al Nasser winning the first game 6-11. Al Kuwari made 1-1 by securing the second game 11-9, with Al Nasser regaining the lead with a 5-11 win in the third game. Al Kuwari, then took back-to-back victories 11-9 and 11-8 to seal the title.
In the semi-finals, Al Kuwari had beaten another Qatari paddler Ahmed Korani 11-1, 5-11, 11-8, 14-12, while Al Naser got past Saudi Arabia’s Ali Altaher 11-2, 11-3, 11-5.
