Applications open for 16th Education Excellence Award

Registration for the 16th Education Excellence Award 2023 will open today, the Organising Committee of the award at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has announced.

The award, held annually under the patronage of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, honours outstanding students, teachers, research scholars and schools to promote a culture of creativity and excellence in Qatar.

“The Organising Committee of the award will start receiving applications by candidates for the award online from today (September 13, 2022) until October 13, 2022, following certain rules,” said CEO of Education Excellence Award, Ali Abdullah Al Buainain.

He was speaking at a press conference held yesterday at the headquarters of the Ministry. Director of Public Relations and Communication Department at the Ministry, Omar Al Yafei, also attended the press conference.

Speaking about the conditions for applying for the award, Al Buainain said schools will be responsible for approving applications by teachers applying under the teachers' category.  

“Interested schools can apply for themselves in the 'excellence school category'. However, schools will approve applications for students applying in the categories of excellent student (in all three categories) and excellence in scientific research for secondary school students,” said Al Buainain. 

He said candidates are required to submit their applications online through the link of education excellence award. “A large number of candidates participated from private schools during past years, and we hope increased participation of private schools in the award.” 

He said a number of programmes have been prepared to introduce the award in public and private schools.

“Committee members will visit schools and hold workshops to educate students about the importance of the award and encourage them to participate in it, in a bid to build a culture of excellence in the country,” said Al Buainain. 

The nine categories of the award include excellent student (primary, preparatory and secondary school), excellent student (university level), excellent teacher, excellent scientific research, excellent master degree holder, excellent PhD degree holder, the excellent school.
