The Ministry of Interior has extended deadline for receiving objections/grievances requests regarding preliminary voter lists. The Supervisory Committee for the Shura Council Elections will now continue receiving requests during the next week.

The process of receiving objections/grievances on preliminary voter lists was scheduled to end yesterday but due to increasing demand by citizens to submit objections/grievances requests , the Ministry extended the time limit.

In a statement published yesterday by the Ministry on its website, the Supervisory Committee for the Shura Council Elections of the Ministry of Interior decided to continue working to receive requests for objections and grievances during the next week and in the same working hours that were previously announced.

The Committee added that the headquarters of the electoral districts will receive requests during the official holidays also.

From August 11 (Wednesday), the Committee had started receiving grievances/objections in two shifts from morning 8am to 12noon and from evening 4pm to 8pm.

The Supervisory Committee has received many grievances and objections in the last five days regarding voter lists and a number of them have been accepted. Many of the grievances and objections were related to citizenship conditions and changing location address  from one electoral district to another.

The Committee still receiving objections/grievances and will examine the documents submitted by the complainants. The Committee will study the issue and a final decision will be issued by nine members of the committee.

The final voter lists will be announced on August 22. The applications for registration of candidates will start on August 22 and will continue until August 26, and that the final list of candidates will be announced on September 15.

The Supervisory Committee for the Shura Council elections has urged the candidates to preserve national unity and maintain the security of society during election campaign.

QR2m is the maximum amount a candidate can spend on the election campaign. It is also important not to campaign for elections by deceiving voters or defaming others.

The candidate is prohibited, when practicing election campaign, from holding a general collective election meeting, except after notifying the security department, including the place and time of the meeting, as well as the names of the speakers, provided that such meetings do not continue after 11pm.

The Committee further said: “It is not permissible for any of the employees in the ministries and other government agencies and public bodies/institutions to carry out any election campaign during their work or their official working hours.”
