Hamad International Airport (HIA) has announced that to avoid congestion at the airport tonight they have made short-term parking free for four hours.

“To avoid congestion at Hamad International Airport, short-term parking is available free of charge from 10pm today until 2am on April 14. Please use the parking to ensure a comfortable and seamless travel experience,” HIA tweeted.

Lot of people are expected to fly back into the country as schools will reopen this week after the short break. It is not clear if the HIA announced the free parking due to this.

“To maintain your security and safety and provide the best travel experience for Hamad International Airport passengers, we recommend that you use the short-term airport parking at peak hours to avoid congestion in the arrivals area and avoid any delays,” HIA has tweeted earlier.

Many cars tend to wait on the roads or near the arrival gate creating congestion during the peak hours.

Some social media users were seen urging the HIA to force people to use the short-term parking at the arrival area instead of waiting on the road. “The vehicles must be forced to stand in the parking lot for arrivals instead of waiting outside the gates. At departure, understand parking in front of the gate,” twitter user Rashid Al Sulaiti‏ said.
