H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, participates in the National Sport Day activities at Education City, yesterday.
H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation (QF), joined hundreds of sports enthusiasts to celebrate National Sport Day (NSD) at the Education City yesterday. A series of activities were held by QF at four different venues of the Education City to inspire the community to make long-lasting lifestyle changes.
H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of QF; H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee; H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani; Robert Skinner, Executive Director of United Nations Office for Partnerships; Ibtihaj Muhammad, US Olympic fencer; and Conor Dwyer, US Olympic swimmer; also attended the activities along with members of the wider community.
H H Sheikha Moza, H E Sheikha Hind and other dignitaries toured the events, spoke with some of the participants and watched them enjoy activities.
The NSD activities at QF included many new features this year and the event officially began with the Qatar Cyclists Tour. At least 500 cyclists of all ages joined the tour spanning a 20km route that began and ended at QF. Members of the Qatar national football team including Almoez Ali were also among the cyclists.
“To be successful on the international stage, a country has to address the Sustainable Development Goals at grassroots level, and QF is certainly helping to contribute to this. Sport, health, and lifestyle choices are sustainable goals of any country, and I can see that QF’s message has reached the local audience in Qatar and the response I see is great,” said Skinner.
An obstacle course called the QF Race featuring 17 different challenges across more than 2km in Oxygen Park was one of the new items included in to QF’s NSD activities. It attracted more than 700 participants. QF Mini Track, a smaller scale obstacle course tailored for younger participants was also a major attraction of the events.
“One of the objectives that we have at QF is healthy living. We promote it as much as we can. What you see today is something we promote on a daily basis and it has made an impact. It has been made evident with the participation of QF staff, students and members of the community participate in large numbers,” said Mohammed Fakroo, Executive Director of Outreach and Institutional Advancement.
Khalifa Al Kubaisi, Media Relations Manager, QF, said, “We believe encouraging people to embrace sport and adopt healthy, active lifestyles in reaching the goals of National Sport day. The Education City has turned into a grand stadium today. We are excited to see more people this year. The number of participants keep growing each year and we have plenty of activities organised for everyone.”
Workouts run by the Dogpound, one of New York City’s most high profile gyms, high-intensity interval training sessions hosted by Qatar-based gym F45, spinning classes organised by Ride Tribe, combination of boxing and fitness training provided by BeatBox, and wellness instruction offered by Vishnu Yoga were also part of new features included into QF’s NSD activities.
