Doha: The 13th Intercontinental Squash tournament held under the patronage of Qatar Squash Federation (QSF) and sponsored by InterContinental Doha will be held from Febraury 13 to 17, it was announced here yesterday.
The five-day tournament will be held in 10 categories.
Gamal Rasmi, Technical Secretary of QSF informed that the tournament will be hled at two venues.
“The preliminary rounds of Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 will be held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. The semi-final and the final will held at InterContinental. All other matches will start at Intercontinental from day one,” said Rasmi.
The other categories are Men’s Level B, Men’s Level A, Men’s over 45, Ladies and Men’s professionals.
The entry forms are available at InterContinental Recreation Centre and Radisson Blu and Sheraton Recreation Centre and the QSF reception desk at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
Entries close on February 4. The Intercontinental Squash is one of the most popular events among local players.
A large number of players are expected to play in various events, the organisers said.
“Some of the top players from Qatar are likely to take part in the event,” said an official.
The tournament is open to all residents of Qatar.
Last year, Abdulrahman Al Malki defeated Syed Azlan Amjad to clinch the top place in the Professional category.In the Men’s Level A final, Ahmed Noor overcame Umair Zaman to win the top spot. In the Men’s Level B, Abdel Wahab Al Ishaq set aside the challenge of Sadam Mehawesh. Mayar El Saka topped in the Ladies category while Hana Alaa El Lethy came second.
The Peninsula
