LOS ANGELES: Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist stopped 33 shots for his third shutout of the season as the New York Rangers ended the Pittsburgh Penguins’ seven-game winning streak in convincing fashion in a 5-0 victory at Madison Square Garden.
First-period goals from left winger Mats Zuccarello, right winger Martin St. Louis and defenseman Kevin Klein gave the Rangers an early stranglehold.
Centre Derick Brassard added a power-play goal in the second period and right winger Rick Nash scored his league-leading 12th goal midway through the third period.
Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury received little help and stopped 30 of 35 shots to suffer his first loss since October 22, this year..
Six different players scored for the New York Islanders while goalie Jaroslav Halak notched his second successive shutout in a 6-0 win over Colorado at Nassau Coliseum.
Defencemen Nick Leddy and Travis Hamonic, left winger Nikolai Kulemin and centres Casey Cizikas, Anders Lee and Ryan Strome scored for New York. Goalie Semyon Varlamov showed a brilliant form and made 40 saves for Colorado.REUTERS
