All 3,500 students of the Pakistan International School (PIS) will get new classroom furniture made in Qatar soon with the help of the Jassim and Hamad bin Jassim Charitable Foundation.
The Foundation has announced a fresh aid worth QR2m for providing chairs and tables to the students of PIS, formerly known as Pakistan Education Center (PEC), a community school run by the Pakistani Embassy in Qatar.
The Foundation has already offered over QR7m to build additional classrooms at the campus of PIS to accommodate more students and provide international education.
The announcement was made in a press conference at the headquarters of the Foundation yesterday.
The Foundation has signed a contract with Meerqat Polymers Company to manufacture and supply 3,800 classroom chairs-with-desks of Qdesk brand of different sizes, 1,200 tables with chairs and 120 office chairs.
“The Foundation is announcing to provide QR2m to PIS for classroom furniture,” said Fawaz Eid Al Shammri, Head of Supporting Services Department at the Foundation.
Al Shammari said that the local company has been selected to manufacture and supply the classroom furniture in a bid to boost national economy.
“In addition, the local company will be more flexible in dealing in term of supplying additional orders in future if needed or replacement of sold items,” he added.
Al Shammri said that another reason for selecting this local company is because its products are 100 percent recyclable and environmental friendly.
“I am thankful to the Foundation for its huge and generous support to Pakistan International School, Qatar in order to aid it construct a fully furnished IGCSE academic block,” said Hafiz Junaid Amir Sial, Community Welfare Attaché, Embassy of Pakistan.
Sial said that it is not just the building but also the logistics and fixtures that the Foundation has obliged our school with.
“I as vice chairman of board of governance of Pakistan international school, see our bond with the Foundation as a partnership, wherein, the role of the Foundation is highly commendable,” he added.
“We signed a contract with the Foundation to manufacture 3,800 classroom tablet arm chair desks of Qdesk brand,” said Khalid bin Rashid Al Khayarin, Chairman of Meerqat Polymers Company.
The products will have the color of Qatar flag showing the affiliation and loyalty to the country, he added. The logo of the Foundation will be also carved in the desks, said Al Khayarin.
“We are expected to receive new furniture completely within three months,” Nargis Raza Otho, Principal of Pakistan International School told The Peninsula on the sidelines of the press conference. Otho said that the company told the school that they are going to produce the classroom furniture and they will supply in batches, within three month whole school will get it.
The furniture will be provided to 3,500 students in our school, plus some more for the uses of library, labs, examination hall, she added.
