Doha: Over 4,000 kilograms of banned tobacco were seized by the Department of Maritime Customs as it foiled an attempt to smuggle the substance into Qatar.
In several photos shared on social media, Customs stated that the tobacco was stashed inside bags of fertilizers. The total weight of the seized substance was 4,639 kilograms.
A few days ago, Customs also thwarted a smuggling attempt of narcotic pills. In this case, 169 Captagon pills and 41 Lyrica pills were found inside a parcel containing a car charger.
So far, three seizures were reported by Customs since the start of this month.
The General Authority of Customs also stated that it "continues to tighten customs control over all imports and exports and combat smuggling in all its forms."
Customs officers are also provided with all means of support including the latest devices and continuous training to read the body language of passengers and to be aware of the latest methods followed by smugglers.
