Miami: Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick has been suspended for four games after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, the NFL reported yesterday.
Scandrick will be eligible to return to action on Oct. 5 against the Houston Texans.
Entering his seventh season in the NFL, Scandrick started 15 of 16 games for the Cowboys last season. He had 64 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble.
His absence will further weaken a Dallas defense already missing key players due to injury.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears signed offensive lineman Rob Turner. The 6-foot-4, 308-pound Turner played for the Tennessee Titans last season, starting the first six games at centre before landing on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. In 2012, Turner started all 16 games for the St. Louis Rams, seeing time at center and left guard.
At Philadelphia Eagles backup center Julian Vandervelde underwent back surgery recently and is expected to miss the start of the season.The 2011 fifth-round pick plays mostly on special teams and took eight snaps at centre last year.
