DOHA: Expressing shock over AS Roma’s upset victory over Barcelona on Tuesday in the Champions League quarter-final, Danish great Michael Laudrup has termed it one of the biggest surprise in football.

AS Roma made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time after overturning a 4-1 first-leg deficit with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday to win the contest on the basis of away goals.

On the sidelines of the Emir Cup Draw Ceremony held in Doha yesterday, the Al Rayyan coach said it was a big surprise.

“I was watching the Liverpool/Manchester City game but then I came to know that AS Roma are making a comeback, I switched to that game. To me it is a big surprise that Roma won 3-0 against Barcelona.

“In Spain, especially in Barcelona everybody is shocked because they cannot believe that. If a team like Barcelona win the first leg 4-1 than it should win comfortably. Barcelona is a better team than Roma. But in football, it is like that, one bad night and you are out, that happens. It may be a huge shock but it is not the first time in football neither it is the last time,” Laudrup added.
