Los Angeles--Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has been discharged from the rehabilitation center after 10 weeks of treatment, US media reported Saturday.
The Akron Beacon Journal was among the news outlets reporting that Manziel had left the facility, where he checked in on January 28 in a bid to abandon a partying lifestyle that hindered his development in his rookie NFL season.
The exact nature of his treatment is not known, but the facility specializes in drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Manziel, a first-round NFL Draft pick last year known as "Johnny Football" since his college star days at Texas A&M, showed troubles even before his first NFL campaign began, being fined $12,000 by the league for an obscene hand gesture he made in a pre-season loss to Washington.
Last November, he was at the heart of a fight at a Cleveland apartment complex between a fan trying to speak with Manziel and people associated with the quarterback.
Manziel began last season as a backup to journeyman Brian Hoyer. After two late-season starts for the Browns, Manziel was fined for missing treatment on a sore hamstring and for being late to team activities.
In the days after the season ended Manziel was photographed partying in Miami, Houston and Aspen.
Last month at the NFL owners meetings, Browns coach Mike Pettine said he expected Manziel to be released from rehab in time to report for the start of the club's off-season conditioning program on April 20.
