UDC celebrates National Sport Day at The Pearl and Gewan Islands

Doha, Qatar: The United Development Company (UDC), the master developer of The Pearl and Gewan Islands, organized a special celebration on Qatar’s National Sports Day, in collaboration with the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority, the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau, Ooredoo Group, and Corinthia Group.

The events were held in the Porto Arabia area at The Pearl Island, as well as at the Crystal Walk and the Gewan Island Golf Club, where visitors and residents of all ages participated in a variety of sports and recreational activities, including fitness exercises, challenge games, children’s activities, and other events aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and proper sports practices.

Prominent figures attended the event, including Ahmad bin Ali Al Hammadi, Chairman of UDC and Director-General of the General Retirement Authority, Yasser Al Jaidah, President & CEO, United Development Company, Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, President of the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau, Sheikh Ali bin Jabor Al Thani, CEO of Ooredoo Group, Reuben Mifsud, General Manager of Corinthia Hotels Doha, as well as administrative officials and senior staff from the participating entities. The event also featured a group walk and a series of sports challenges.

In his speech, Ahmad bin Ali Al Hammadi emphasised that Sport Day raises awareness about the importance of sports and physical fitness for all segments of society, contributing to promoting sports culture as a way of life and helping build a prosperous community with health and safety.

He said: “Qatar aims to make the sport an essential part of daily life, supported by its National Vision 2030, which enhances public health and safety.”

He also encouraged employees and retirees to join the Sports Day events and stressed the importance of sports in everyday life.

Similarly, Yasser Al Jaidah stated: “In line with Qatar’s National Vision for human development, UDC believes that sports and health are the foundation for positive social transformation. The significant turnout for Sports Day activities reflects the community’s understanding of the day’s noble goals.” He added: “We continue our efforts to develop sports facilities and green spaces to provide an environment that supports sports activities at The Pearl and Gewan Islands, contributing to a more active and healthier lifestyle.”

The United Development Company hosts annual sports events that encourage residents and visitors to participate in various activities. 

The two islands are ideal examples of a healthy lifestyle, with their green spaces, public parks, sports fields, and fitness clubs, providing a comprehensive environment for sports and recreational activities.
