Doha: Minister of Culture, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday opened the fourth edition of the “Seminar Season”, which is held in partnership with Qatar University and the Arab Center for Studies, as part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to establish a prominent platform for serious and in-depth cultural and intellectual dialogue on key cultural and societal issues.
The opening was attended by a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs and ambassadors accredited to the state, along with a lineup of senior officials and intellectuals.
Running through February 25, the Seminar Season will bring together a distinct elite of experts, intellectuals, thinkers and academics from inside and outside the State of Qatar, to find enlightened approaches and proposals on the dialectics of culture and the challenges of contemporary civilizational relations and social changes, and other cultural topics and current intellectual issues.
In an introductory speech, the General Supervisor of the Seminars Season, Jassim Salman, said that the Seminars Season has become an annual platform to promote in-depth cultural and intellectual dialogue on contemporary cultural and societal issues, and an open space for the convergence of ideas that shape the Qatari and Arab cultural scene. He noted that the Ministry of Culture has prepared a rich and diverse program of intellectual seminars.
He added that the Ministry of Culture aims, through the seminar season, to enhance its efforts in building fruitful cultural partnerships with community stakeholders, supporting cultural activities, and building bridges of communication between cultural elites and the public.
He also stressed the Ministry’s keenness to expand the scope of cultural influence by establishing cultural partnerships with major cultural and research institutions in the world, in a way that supports Qatar’s cultural presence in global academic and intellectual circles, and opens broader horizons for fruitful intellectual discussion and dialogue.
