DOHA: The upbeat mood of residents for the National Sport Day (NSD) has pushed up sales of sport accessories in the country. Aggressive awareness campaign by government institutions and private companies for sport day events has also fired-up the sporting spirit among the residents.
Sport goods’ retailers have witnessed strong demand for sport goods. “The demand for sport items is more from retail customers for NSD this time. The rush got momentum since Thursday and it will touch peak today,” a sport goods retailer told The Peninsula.
“Sport shoes and T-shirts are the most sought after items by retail customers because no special skill or training is required for jogging or running. The demand for medals, trophies and sport equipment is higher from government institutions and private companies,” he added.
The sale of footballs and soft balls for cricket have also risen sharply. Sale of T-shirts, caps and other sport accessories for kids have also jumped. Going by the mood of residents, the NSD celebrations are expected to see huge turnout.
“We started receiving bulk orders from companies from September and October, which indicated that the sport day will be full of action,” said a retailer. “We were expecting some impact of unjust siege on the mood of residents. But the sale of sport items proved out fears wrong,” he added.
Government entities and private firms have lined up an exciting events for the NSD. A range of sport activities for all ages will be held tomorrow to mark day. Aspire Zone, Qatar Tourism Authority, Qatar Foundation and other institutions have planned many sport events for NSD.
Entities such as Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Airways, Ooredoo, QNB, Vodafone and others have sponsored many events. Joining the trend, many retailers have also announced discount offers on sport items.
Hotels, restaurants, tour and travel operators have also announced to attractive offers to make the NSD memorable for residents. The sport day has begun to attract tourists and it gives them opportunity to get sport items on discounted rates.
