Thousands of people are expected to take part in a number of sports and fitness activities marking the second NSD today.

Doha: The second Qatar National Sport Day (NSD) celebrations will be held today with different institutions and sport bodies hosting a variety of fun-filled activities in different locations of the country.

With the physical well-being of Qatar’s population identified as a top priority under the issuing of an Emiri Decree, all institutions have remained steadfast in its determination to meet this ambitious agenda.

Today’s sporting programme seeks to encourage the pursuit of healthy lifestyles and physical fitness by making exercise enjoyable and family-friendly.

Throughout the day, a number of competitions and tournaments will take place across the country.

Qatar’s ‘National Sport Day’ is also a further example of the country’s commitment to sport, in addition to the ‘Schools Olympic Programme’, which encourages schoolchildren to practice sport as an integral part of their daily life.

Today, QOC will open sports clubs and facilities, allowing everyone, men, women, children and persons with disabilities to practice and enjoy sporting activities.

Events at the Corniche, Aspire, Al Rafaa Street, Barzan and the Olympic Park will demonstrate the importance of sport in daily life, in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The QOC wants to promote sports, physical education and sustainable development, further enhancing the Qatar National Vision 2030.

Additionally, a Sport Zone has been set up by QOC near the Corniche, featuring all day sport and recreational activities open for all, from today to February 16.

Qatar is one of the few nations worldwide to dedicate a Day of Sport for its society.

Qatar Foundation (QF) is one such body which has lined up a number of events like running and cycling races, football and cricket matches, golf lessons and karate classes. Specific competitions will be organised for those with special needs, the QF said.

Entertainment will also be available for children of all ages, through activities such as mini-tennis, face painting and balloon twisting, it added. Also joining in the celebrations are Qatar Petroleum (QP).
