QE Index surges to multi-month high

Continuing upward momentum on the third straight session, the Qatar Stock Exchange (QE) index jumped 117.26 points or 1.09 percent to close at multi-month high of 10,842.99 points, yesterday. Helped by strong investor demand and positive sentiments, the QE Index has risen around 165 points in the past three trading sessions. The QE Index had closed at 10,678 points on January 7.
In yesterday’s trade, the volume of shares traded decreased to 186.98 million from 198.62 million on Sunday while the value of shares increased to QR590.78m from QR517.11m on Sunday.
Indices of seven sectors ended in green zone yesterday. QSE Total Return Index increased 1.09 percent to 20,845.30 points and QSE Al Rayan Islamic Index gained 0.69 percent to 4,364.16 points. QSE All Share Index up 1.04 percent to 3,330.27points.
On Sunday, the QE Index had risen 0.4 percent to close at 10,725.7. The Transportation and Telecoms indices led the gains. The index rose on the back of buying support from Arab and foreign shareholders despite selling pressure from Qatari and GCC shareholders. The Transportation and Telecoms indices, gained 3.3 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively. Top gainers were Qatar Navigation and Al Khalij Commercial Bank, rising 5.4 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively. Among the top losers, Qatar Islamic Insurance Company and Ezdan Holding Group were down 1.4 percent each.
On Thursday, the QE Index had risen 0.9 percent to close at 10,678.3. The index rose on the back of buying support from foreign shareholders despite selling pressure from Qatari, GCC and Arab shareholders. Gains were led by the Insurance and Telecoms indices, gaining 2.7 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively. Top gainers were Qatar Insurance Company and Qatari German Company for Medical Devices, rising 4.3 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively. Among the top losers, Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Co. fell 2.0 percent, while Qatar General Insurance & Reinsurance Company was down 1.8 percent.
