Doha: Eid Bin Mohammad Al Thani Charitable Association yesterday said the charity implemented relief and development projects at a cost of QR454m in 59 countries around the world last year.
The association carried out 5,722 projects. Relief aid topped the list of the projects, with over QR118m, the majority of which was directed towards Syrian refugees.
The charity’s Board of Directors Chairman Sheikh Eid bin Mohammad Al Thani offered his tribute to the country’s wise leadership for support and said it helped foster Qatar’s presence on the development, humanitarian and relief arenas.
He told a press conference that the association achieved success in foreign projects worth more than QR394m and local cultural, social and advocacy projects worth QR60m.
Ali bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the association, said the charity attaches great importance to its local humanitarian, cultural and social projects and humanitarian efforts in conflict and disaster areas across the world.
Al Suwaidi stressed continued growth of the association due to people’s response to humanitarian calls and crises in many countries.
He said humanitarian activities have been expanded to include another 59 countries and the association’s revenue reached QR460m.
He said 2.8 million people in 26 countries benefited from relief projects while orphans and families benefiting from them totalled more than 44,000.
Al Suwaidi said the association built 469 mosques and 359 homes for people in need and implemented 2,852 water projects.
Ali bin Khaled Al Hajri, Executive Director, Foreign Projects, highlighted details of the foreign projects.
Several directors of departments and centres linked to the association spoke about the most important social, cultural and media projects implemented locally. A total of 2,049 people from different nationalities embraced Islam following propagation of the religion.
They also highlighted support of the wise leadership in Qatar for charity and humanitarian work and Qatari benefactors’ response to humanitarian campaigns and initiatives. QNA
