Qatar and Bangladesh enjoy excellent bilateral relations

Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, H E Ashud Ahmed (pictured) has congratulated the leadership of Qatar, government and people on the occasion of Qatar National Day which falls on December 18.

“On the auspicious occasion of the National Day of the State of Qatar, it’s my great pleasure to convey my best wishes to Amir 

H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani; Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani; Deputy Amir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani; Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Government of Qatar for their astute leadership in smoothly running the affairs of the country with concrete measures for implementing Qatar National Vision 2030,” said Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, Ashud Ahmed. 

“On this happy occasion, I would also like to take this opportunity to convey my greetings and felicitations to the brotherly people of Qatar and wish them continued peace, progress and prosperity.”

The Ambassador said that Bangladesh and Qatar have been enjoying excellent bilateral relations and in the process of opening up more areas for further strengthening cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two great people. 

“It’s my firm belief and hope that our bilateral partnership on multiple areas like trade, tourism, business and investment, in addition to our traditional cooperation in labour and energy sectors, will boost up in the days ahead and take our relations to newer heights,” said H E Ashud Ahmed.

The Ambassador said that there exists a lot of potential in many areas. “Another sector which has tremendous potential is the pharmaceutical sector of Bangladesh. Qatar can consider importing medicines from Bangladesh which are cost-effective as well as meeting international quality standards.”

Regarding bilateral trade, he said that the currently the balance of trade is in favour of Qatar and the trade gap has increased manifold due to Bangladesh’s importing of LNG from Qatar under a long-term agreement.
To a question regarding Qatari investments in Bangladesh, the Ambassador said: “There is huge scope to invest in different sectors in Bangladesh like ports development infrastructure development, telecommunication, IT and tourism etc.” 

On Qatar’s preparations for organizing 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Ambassador said that Bangladesh was happy over the fact that first time an Islamic State was organizing such a mega sport event and Bangladesh was ready to extend all-out support and cooperation to Qatar in this regard.

To a question, the Ambassador said that the Bangladeshi community in Qatar was also very active in playing a catalytic role in establishing people to people contacts through organising various cultural activities. 

“Different community organisations organise such events on different national and international occasions on a regular basis in close cooperation with various departments of the host government. Bangladesh MHM School and College are also doing a great job in this regard.” The Ambassador said, “Long live Qatar-Bangladesh friendship”.
