Doha/London: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has sent a cable of congratulations to HM King Charles III on his accession to the throne in the United Kingdom, wishing His Majesty success and the British people further development and growth.
Deputy Amir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani also sent a cable of congratulations to HM King Charles III on his accession to the throne.
Earlier, the UK Accession Council announced the official inauguration of King Charles III as King of the United Kingdom, in a ceremony held at St. James’s Palace aired live.
The announcement of the Council, made up of senior politicians, judges and state officials, was followed by the coronation of Charles III as King in state institutions and the flags that were flown at half mast to mourn the late Queen Elizabeth II were raised again.
The first declaration of the new king’s accession to the throne was announced from the balcony of Fryer Court in St James’s Palace in central London, according to a decades-old tradition, where trumpeters played and saluted with firearms in Hyde Park and the top of the Tower of London.
Charles became king the moment his mother died, but it is customary that the Accession Council convenes as soon as possible to make a formal declaration of his coronation as successor to the late Queen.
King Charles III also announced, in a televised speech on Friday, the appointment of his heir, Prince William and his wife Catherine, Prince and Princess of Wales, in his first official speech after ascending to the throne of the country, succeeding the late Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday at the age of 96.
The King, in his first address to the nation after taking the throne, pledged to serve the British people with loyalty, respect and love. He pledged to “follow the inspiring example I have been set”.
