Discussions held as part of 140th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and related meetings on different global issues were fruitful, said Salomon Jara Cruz (pictured), Head of the Parliamentary Delegation from Mexico.
He also said that he is optimistic that all parliamentarians from different countries present at the Assembly would work towards achieving common goals on issues related to education, health and human rights.
“The topics discussed during the meetings are important. The IPU Assembly has created a good and important platform to discuss the relation between education for peace, security and the rule of law. It has proved the importance of working together,” he said while talking to The Peninsula.
“We have common goals to achieve on different issues. Many delegates shared identical thoughts and opinions on ways to address common issues which is a very positive sign,” he added.
He also stressed that the discussions related to Sustainable Development Goals 2030 are significant as education is one of the major goals set to be achieved under SDGs.
“Besides the fruitful discussions, this Assembly has allowed us to learn about the Qatari culture and gain new experience,” said Cruz.
Cruz is leading an eight-member delegation from Mexico, which hosted IPU Assembly in 2004. The 140th IPU Assembly of the IPU concluded in Doha yesterday with recommendations on the general debate theme ‘Parliaments as platforms to enhance education for peace, security and the rule of law’.
