Doha, Qatar: Dar Al Sharq organised its 3rd Supply Chain Management Conference yesterday,  hosting prominent local and international experts to find solutions for enhancing sustainability and efficiency of supply chain in Qatar and the region.

Held under the patronage of Minister of Transport H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani, the conference showcased the latest trends and innovations in supply chain management. The conference was held under the theme, ‘Post-Crisis Recovery Challenges’.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy CEO of Dar Al Sharq and Editor-in-Chief of Al Sharq  Jaber Al Harami said that the conference aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the supply chain management sector amid conflicts in some countries and the fast changing world.

He noted the major impacts of recent global crises on supply chains, starting with COVID-19 that disrupted the global economy, through the Russian-Ukrainian war, and up to the aggression on the Gaza Strip, and its repercussions on transportation and shipping operations for international markets, which raises many major challenges that must be worked on to establish the necessary solutions to overcome them.

He said that through this conference, Dar Al Sharq seeks to present a platform where various specialists and parties concerned with supply chains meet for discussing the necessary means to create the appropriate environment for this key sector, and ways to move it towards raising its efficiency and reaching the highest possible levels.

Director of Land Transport Licensing Department at Ministry of Transport Hamad Ali Al Marri said that the conference is an important event that provides an ideal platform to review and discuss national future plans for supply chain operations.

In order to enhance the country’s leading position on the global transport sector map, he said, the Ministry of Transport has prepared a comprehensive plan for land freight in Qatar, which works to establish an integrated, effective and multi-modal land freight system to support the requirements of economic development and provide strategic land transport solutions that are efficient and competitive, in addition to achieving integration with the air and sea freight sectors and supporting supply chains, which enhances economic diversification plans and economic and environmentally sustainable solutions, as well as supporting competitive advantages in regional and global trade by linking companies, products, services and individuals,” said Al Marri. Qatar Chamber First Vice Chairman Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari said that this conference is a platform for research and exploration of the most important issues and challenges facing this key supply chain management sector.

He said that supply chains play a prominent role in facilitating the movement of trade and the transfer of goods and services between countries.

Al Kuwari said Qatar has developed a world-class logistics infrastructure and invest heavily in this sector, which is linked to all the elements of economic growth. As a culmination of these efforts, he said, Qatar came in second place among the countries of the region in terms of the efficiency of logistics services.

Director of Safety, Security, Health and Environment, Mwani Qatar Abdulrahman Ibrahim Al Marqouqi said that the challenges facing global supply chains are not limited to health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, but also include climate change, geopolitical turmoil, and technological innovations that are reshaping the rules of global trade.

He added, “We must be fully prepared to address these challenges through strategies based on innovation, sustainability, and collaboration.” He said that Mwani Qatar made remarkable achievements in enhancing the flexibility and sustainability of supply chains.
