Qatargas Open Badminton begins from November 13

Doha: The Qatargas Open Badminton Championship organised by Qatar Badminton Association (QBA) will kick off from November 13 at Qatar Table Tennis Association’s indoor training hall, it was announced here yesterday.  

Qatargas is the title sponsor of the biggest open badminton championship organised by QBA that will see around 400 players vying for top positions in 25 categories, held for various age-groups. 

The tournament will be held over a period of six days and all the finals will be on November 18. 

Addressing a press conference Talal Al Mawlawi, Board Member of QBA said:  

“We thank Qatargas for its commendable support to this championship which, we expect, will help propel Qatar into the world map of yet another increasingly popular sporting event.

“The tournament brings together almost all badminton players of different nationalities in Qatar under one roof. This is the biggest badminton tournament in Qatar with a total of 25 events under various categories and is open to all resident of Qatar. We are also planning to hold several such tournaments in the coming years with a long term goal of hosting international tournaments, in line with the State of Qatar’s strategy to be a prominent player on the World sports map.”

The tournament will have 16 categories for juniors, while seniors will play in ten events. 

Winner and runner’s up in the senior category will get air tickets, while podium winners in the junior sections will receive gift vouchers. 

The matches will be held between 2 pm to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday and between 4 pm to 10 pm on week days. The finals will be held on 18 November.
