The Head of the Parliamentary delegation of Korea participating in the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Chun Jung-bae (pictured), has said Qatar is progressing fast in areas like politics, economy, rule of law, security and peace.

“Therefore, it is not surprising for us that Qatar is hosting this global parliamentary event that discusses many important issues,” he added. “There are many commonalities between Qatar and the Republic of Korea in terms of applying the rule of law, democratic orientation and economic development,” he added.

Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of IPU Assembly and related meetings, he praised the strong friendship between Qatar and Korea, stressing that it was continuously developing for the benefit of the two countries in various fields of interest.

Chun Jung-bae noted that Qatar’s economic growth and its positive role enabled it to host this important international parliamentary event.  About the general debate on education and peace, he expressed his satisfaction with the progress of discussions as education is a vital role for nations progress.

“This is the first time I have visited Qatar. My participation in this important parliamentary event has allowed me to take a closer look at the progress achieved by Qatar in various fields and sectors,” he said.

Chun Jung-bae (former Minister of Justice) expressed his confidence about the future growth of Qatar-Korea relations. He pointed out in the same context the existing cooperation and trade exchange between Qatar-Korea in the sectors of food, gas, oil and other joint ventures, as well as the presence of many Korean companies in Qatar.

He also mentioned that the parliamentary relations between the Shura Council and the Korean National Assembly will also be developed and strengthened, especially through parliamentary friendship groups in both the countries.
