Doha: The French Embassy in Doha is fully committed to promoting women’s achievements, and will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Labour and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Qatar to further expand women’s advancement in the country, French Ambassador to Qatar H E Jean-Baptiste Faivre said yesterday.
Addressing the ‘Break the Bias’ event organised by the French Embassy in Doha and the French Business Council in cooperation with HEC Paris in Qatar, the Ambassador said: “France is proud of implementing a feminist diplomacy, which means equality between men and women is a key area of work and a priority. The French embassy in Doha is fully committed to promoting women achievements. And we believe in experience sharing, leading by example, and importance of role models. We also believe in partnerships and joint endeavours. This is the reason why we decided to partner with the ILO Project Office in Doha and the Ministry of Labour in Qatar, and soon to sign an MoU which will include experience sharing on how to further accelerate women’s advancement in Qatar”.
The Ambassador, who has assumed his post only a few months ago, also reiterated the important role of women in Qatar.
Efi Frager, Head of the Economic Department at the French Embassy added: “We have witnessed the dynamic business ecosystem in Qatar. And this event is a first of many. We will organise more exchanges on specific topics, such as sustainability, fourth industrial revolution, and digitalisation, but also female talent, and entry to labour market particularly men-dominated industries.”.
Speaking about French technologies and solutions which will be showcased during the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Ambassador told The Peninsula on the sidelines of the event: “French companies are heavily involved in the World Cup, and we are very proud of that. Starting from infrastructure and transportation. A lot of French companies are also involved in the security field which is another key area for the successful hosting of the World Cup,” he added.
“We believe in QNV 2030, and we are fully committed to accompany Qatar in that vision. There will be a huge expansion in the oil and gas in the coming years, and we have big French companies with successful cooperation with Qatar in that field. We will continue on that, in addition to other fields including energy transition, sports, and digital technologies” he said.
