Businesses join nation in celebrating NSD

As the entire country enthusiastically celebrated National Sport Day (NSD) yesterday, Qatar’s corporate sector also came forward and played crucial role in making this day a big success. Companies held several events and rolled out exciting offers which not only lifted the sentiments of citizens and expatriates but also created awareness about fitness and healthy lifestyle. 

Because this year’s National Sport Day was unique due to COVID-19 pandemic, the companies adopted innovative measure to make this day memorable. 

The companies went on to social media platform to encourage employees to celebrate this day with safety and precautions. Firms posted sports and health tips on social media platforms, explaining different ways to keep themselves fit and healthy. Companies encouraged its employees to workout individually in open areas in line with the precautionary measures.

“Sports can build confidence and self-esteem. It is a crucial part of maintaining health, promoting development, and an essential element to success in any person’s life. It’s extremely important to adopt a consistent exercise plan in your daily routine,” said Qatar Airways in a tweet yesterday. “On the 10th Qatar National Sport Day, we would like to encourage everyone to stay healthy and active while maintaining the safety measures in place,” it added.

Companies also used this day to announce new launches for customers. Vodafone Qatar launched a one-of-a-kind Augmented Reality (AR) game to mark National Sport Day. The game enables individuals to engage in exercises from the safety of their homes. 

The company also launched offers on devices such as Tenvis scale and fitness tracker. “This Qatar National Sport Day only, keep track of your health with these special offers on fitness devices. Tenvis scale and fitness tracker, now only QR49 instead of QR199 each. Get them in select stores or online,” said the company in a tweet.

Dukhan Bank yesterday announced the launch of Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay, to the Dukhan Pay (D-Pay) contactless payment platform. On the Dukhan Pay (D-Pay) platform, customers can now add their Dukhan Bank debit and credit cards to their respective Fitbit and Garmin devices to make quick and seamless contactless transactions directly from the wrist.

The National Sport Day Committee had laid down the conditions and guidelines related to the 2021 National Sport Day events and activities, which require this year’s sports activities to be conducted individually and in the open air only, while applying social distancing and maintaining a distance of at least three meters during each sports activity. This year only individual activities were held, such as running, swimming and cycling, as sports that require contact and several teams competing in a limited space were not allowed. 

Officials and employees of companies practiced sports activities fully adhering to safety protocols and complying with the health requirements.
