Minister of Energy and Industry and Managing Director of QP H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, said: “This is a great recognition of the joint effort put by QP and Shell to deliver a unique national asset for the State of Qatar. Pearl GTL is indeed, a realization of the wise vision of the Emir, H H  Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, to make Qatar the GTL capital of the world and generate added value from the country’s abundant gas resources.”

As the leading oil and gas event in the Middle East region, the ADIPEC Awards recognize projects which set new performance standards by showing commitment to quality, safety and operational excellence from design phase to operation. The criteria also measure the technical and commercial values generated by the projects and their respective competitive advantages.

Pearl GTL is the largest energy project in Qatar and at $18 – 19bn is Shell’s largest investment in a single project. It captures the full value chain from offshore development through onshore gas processing to refining of finished products. It consists of two unmanned offshore platforms 60km off the Qatar coast, connected by pipeline to the world’s largest Gas to Liquids plant ever built.

The ambitious project has design capacity to convert 1.6bn standard cubic feet per day of wellhead gas into 260,000 bbl per day of products, comprising 140,000bbl/d of GTL products and 120,000bbl/d of condensate, LPG and ethane.
