Doha: Safety is the responsibility of every individual and can be achieved by following safety rules, regulations, standards, and laws. Being vigilant of fraudsters and caring for the safety of colleagues, family, friends and everyone else we come into contact with and intervene when we observe unsafe behaviour is part of raising awareness as safety is shared responsibility, said an official.
The Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in association with Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Interior organised a virtual awareness seminar during which First Lieutenant Fahad Jassim Al Mansoori, Technical Officer at Criminal Investigation Department under the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation shared tips on different aspects of safety and security.
“Be cautious of fraudsters and swindlers and don’t follow offers that provide better livelihoods without any guarantees. Do not buy any scrap without official permission from the police and inform the Central Operations Room on 999 whenever you are suspicious of people on the work site or gangs falsifying documents or promoting counterfeit currencies,” he explained.
“If you have lost your ID card, driving licence, cheque, mobile, purse or cash, you can report using Metrash2 app without visiting security departments. Report to the concerned security department when vehicle plates are lost or stolen and cooperate with police completely by reporting immediately any incident that occurs to you or to others, because security is a joint responsibility,” he added
First Lieutenant Al Mansoori stated that installing security surveillance cameras in stores, commercial centres, residential complexes and homes can be helpful. He advised to use good kinds of locks to close the doors and windows of the companies and outlets and not to leave any valuables inside companies and large sums of money inside the commercial stores, as it is preferable to deposit them in banks.”
Speaking about securing personal belongings at the company accommodations he said, “It is important to keep personal belongings in closed suitcases or lockers and buying valuables only before one or two days of departure for vacations and avoiding storing of valuables for a long period before the travel is important. Also, not to disclosing the details of the purchased items to the roommates protects you.”
While travelling on public transport such as the Karwa buses or Metro make sure to secure your belongings by placing them in a safe place. “We also urge you to be careful not to withdraw a large amount from ATMs and to use cards instead of cash. When going outside, please carry only the essential items with you and if you are exposed to theft or looting, report it to the police immediately. Providing the accurate location when calling emergency 999 helps Al Fazaa, Civil Defence and ambulance reach quickly.”
If someone finds lost items (phone, money, gold, jewellery) they must be handed over to the owner or to the nearest police station within 7 days of finding it. “If he keeps it in his custody and does not hand over it during that period, then by the law, he shall be sentenced with imprisonment for a term of not more than six months with a fine of not more than QR3,000,” he added.
