Doha: An increasing number of qualified citizens are getting leadership positions in the private sector, thanks to the job orientation programme of the Ministry of Labour.
As many as 337 citizens were appointed in the private sector entities during first quarter of 2022.
“Citizens who are seeking jobs after graduation are enjoying a number of privileges in the private sector, such as getting leadership positions with the support of job orientation programmes,” said spokesperson of the Ministry of Labour, Khalid Hussein Abdullah. Speaking in a Qatar TV programme, he said university qualification is enough for job-seekers to get jobs in the private sector as they undergo job orientation programme of different periods such as six months, one year or two years as per the nature of the job.
“The programme enabled them to take leadership positions in the private sector which could not be available in public sector in the beginning,” said Abdullah.
He said fresh university graduates get jobs in public sector but they might have to wait for a while to be promoted to leadership positions. However, he said, the situation is different in the private sector where candidates, after the job oriantation programme, get leadership positions.
“We, the Ministry of Labour, are offering different types of jobs to Qatari job seekerss in the private sector through National Employment Platform (Kawader) in coordination with the companies,” said Abdullah.
According to the latest figures issued by the Ministry of Labour, 337 citizens were appointed in the private sector companies during first Quarter of this year. The finance and insurance sectors provided the highest, 177, jobs followed by energy and industry sectors where 51 citizens got the opportunities.
Telecommunications and IT sectors provided 44 jobs, while the services and transportation sectors contributed with 35 jobs. Fifteen citizens were appointed in the real estate and contracting sectors. Private institutions offered 14 jobs and hospitality sector appointed one citizen.
Abdullah said the Ministry has intensified efforts to approach the maximum number of private companies and institutions to enhance the job nationalisation programme to offer more job vacancies to job seekers.
Regarding the development of Kawader job portal, he said the upgradation of the platform not only aims to increase the number of vacancies but it also ensures to provide jobs which match candidates' qualifications and experience.
Unified efforts by the government, training centres and companies are required for the job Qatarisation drive in the private sector. The Ministry of Labour is playing a key role by offering a number of services such as job-nationalisation service and creating awareness in the private sector in this regard.
