“Usually the demand for sports related items picks up in the first week of February, gains pace thereafter and peaks a day before the National Sports Day. But, this year we have already seen strong demand for several sports related items. After Qatar won the Asian Cup, the sale of sports related items has surged from Saturday onward,” a senior official of a sports goods retailer told The Peninsula.
“Going by the robust momentum in sales so far, I expect the sales to remain strong in the coming days. Companies have also placed huge orders,” he added.

The winning of Asian Cup has further increased Qatar’s love for football and this has resulted in sharp rise in the demand for items. Retailers say the demand for footballs and accessories related to the game is more this year.
According to the shop owners, along with football accessories, the demand is high for sports shoes and T-shirts because running and jogging is the most common sports which can practiced by anyone and no special skill is needed for these sports.
