Ooredoo marathon to witness record number of participants

Doha: Ooredoo Doha Marathon 2019 is set to witness record number of participants, as some 4,000 participants are set to take part in this year’s edition. The marathon is set to be held on Friday, with the gathering point located at the Museum of Islamic Art park.  

“We’ve always been proud to host the Ooredoo Doha Marathon and have been incredibly encouraged to see it go from strength to strength each year. This year, we’re delighted to confirm it’s a record year on all fronts; we’ve got more participants than ever, more sponsors than ever and more prizes than ever,” Yousuf Abdulla Al Kubaisi, Chief Operating Officer, Ooredoo said at a press conference. 

“We can’t wait to see all the runners at the start line on Friday and we wish them all the very best of luck in their race,” he added. 

At the press conference, Ooredoo also announced an impressive list of prominent sponsors including Qatar Airways, Huawei, Aspire, StarkLink, AlKass Sports Channels, Katara Hospitality, Lekhwiya, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Sports for All Federation, Damaan Islamic Insurance Company (Beema), Qatar Athletics Federation, Evergreen Organics, Recharge Qatar, The St. Regis Doha, Qatar Museums, Sports Corner, Radio Olive, Radio Suno and Burrda Sport. 

“We have a record-breaking 4000 participants signed up and ready to take their places at the start line on January 11, for the full marathon and for all the other race categories as well. We’re delighted to be able to make this event accessible to all, from serious marathon runners to families taking part in shorter distances together,” said Al Kubaisi. 

This year’s prize fund is also the best ever, with the first placed male and female runner in the open category standing to take away an impressive QR45,000 each. 

There will also be generous cash prizes for winners and runners up in all other categories. 

“Prize funds are the most generous ever this year, with the first-placed male and female in the Open category set to take home an amazing QR45,000 each and cash prizes for winners and runners up in all other categories too,” he added. 

To encourage participation in the marathon, Ooredoo held a raffle draw for its customers to win up to an amazing 125,000 Nojoom points, simply for entering the event. Three lucky winners scooped the prize points; Jafer Ajanur won 125,000 as first prize, Jowhara Al Qahtani won 75,000 points as second prize and Hadji Raytos won 50,000 points as third prize.
