GAC to launch programme to simplify custom procedures for sporting events

The General Authority of Customs (GAC) is about to launch a special programme to simplify custom procedures for giant sporting events, notably FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“The programme aims at simplify customs procedures through a single window system for those seeking services from Qatar and abroad, in coordination with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) and the Organizing Committee for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” said Chairman of the General Authority of Customs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal.

He was speaking to the media persons at 2nd Supply Chain Management Conference organised by Dar Al Sharq at Holiday Inn yesterday. Al Jamal said that the details of this and other new programmes will be announced on the International Customs Day in January.

Speaking about the development of single window customs clearance system Al Nadeeb, he said: “There are several recommendations in the General Authority of Customs to upgrade the system with new features which we consider the second phase of the system (Al Nadeeb 2).”

Regarding the readiness of Abu Samra border crossing amid growing activities of tourism and trade in coming period, he said that it is undergoing a complete maintenance starting from August of this year. 

“The maintenance work will be completed before end of September 2022 to cover all requriments tourism and trade sectors before FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” said Al Jamal.
