Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara yesterday inaugurated the 'Journey of Colours in the Depths of Childhood' exhibition at Building 15, in cooperation with Al Arqam Academy for Girls. It will run until May 11.
Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Katara General Manager, led the opening of the event and expressed hope that the art exhibition will achieve its educational and artistic goals, and further develop the talents and experiences of the participating students.
He also stressed that Katara supports and sponsors these kind of initiatives and that its doors are always open to all creators of all ages and categories.
The exhibition features 80 paintings made by primary school students in the academy.
Basma bint Saleh, a teacher of art education at Al Arqam Academy for Girls, said: “The exhibition includes selected and varied drawings of a group of female students in the primary stage from the first to the sixth grade. The drawings were done by the students with remarkable skill on canvases and in watercolours.”
Moreover, Saleh added that the topic of artworks revolved around Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, silent nature, while other paintings depicted the city of Jerusalem, Al Aqsa Mosque, and raising the Palestinian flag on the Dome of the Rock Mosque, in addition to drawings on glass.
From practical lessons in the field of mixing colours, the exhibition also included works of art in which the students used a variety of tools such as plastic, wood, glass and cardboard which can be used to decorate the students’ offices and rooms.
