Cloud computing is one of the technologies that drive digitalisation which is the future of technology.

It is on-demand self-service, all managed through online, application which allows a user to use a variety of services, said an expert.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) organized ‘Grow Your Business with a Cloud Commerce System’ webinar that shed light on the need for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to continuously evolve and develop in the new technology especially in the COVID-19 situation.

Speaking in the webinar, Joseph Jeffin, Co-Founder & Business Development Head, Stimes Technologies noted Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services like servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and more over the Internet (the cloud). He highlighted problems faced by SMEs like huge expense in IT investments, lack of skilled IT resources, lack of professionalism, poor or outdated technology.

He said, “Cloud solutions are emerging because of the developments in technology as there is easy access to 4G or 5G services, the exponential growth in adoption of smart devices, 24X7 access anywhere in the world, and fast deployment of solutions”.

“All organizations need to continuously evolve and adapt in terms of IT and with the right IT partner in Qatar. It is time to put businesses in the cloud so that technology drives the business,” he added.
He said, “SMEs need cloud platform to cut down the physical storage and IT investment cost as there is no need to buy high end server. Also, it does not require a technical team for IT assistance which can be waived by using cloud platform. The advantage of using cloud system is the single server which anybody can access anytime, there is no dependency on the infrastructure for the service”.

“There are three types of cloud services available such as Infrastructure as a service (Iaas), Platform as a service (PaaS), and Software as a service (SaaS) based model but now Server-less computing is available for customers which focuses on building app functionality without spending time continually managing the servers and infrastructure. The cloud provider handles the setup, capacity planning and server management, for example, AWS Lambda, Microsoft Azure functions, Google Cloud”.

Stimes Technologies started in 2014 and have 60 plus clients in Qatar and have completed more than hundred projects in Qatar. The demand for cloud computing is growing every year. According to analytical agency, the global market for public cloud services will reach $308.5bn in 2021. This is $40bn more than in 2020 and 90bn more than in 2019.
