Doha: Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulwahed Al Hammadi inaugurated yesterday the 4th Visual Art Creators Exhibition ‘Pencil’ at Katara Cultural Village, Building No.10.

The exhibition is showcasing pencil-drawn artworks by teachers and students featuring different innovative themes like nationalism, loyalty to the nation, beauty and nature. The exhibition also includes beautiful portraits of Amir H H Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani and Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi said that a bachelor degree program in visual art will be launched soon at the College of Education at Qatar University. The program aims to provide qualified art teachers for schools operating in Qatar.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, H E Al Nuaimi said: “The Ministry will keep some drawings showcased in the Exhibition which will be given as a gift to the State guests during their visit to the Ministry.”

He said that the names of student artists, their schools and types of artwork will be printed on the artwork to encourage artists and spread the culture of visual art.

“Most of the talented students in visual arts are distinguished in the rest of the subjects,” said H E Al Naumi adding that the Exhibition includes artworks of students with hearing impairment and autism, urging the public to visit the exhibition in order to stand on the creations of students and their teachers.

The Exhibition will be open to visitors from 8am to 1pm and 4pm to 7:30pm until February 27. Over 470 students and 240 teachers from 148 government and 18 private schools are participating with their artworks in the Exhibition.

The artwork in black-and-white is featuring history of Qatar, its culture and heritage. Many of the artworks touch humanity with nib of pencils.

Director of Education Directive Department at the Ministry, Mawza Al Mudhaka said that the Ministry organises the visual art exhibition annually due to its cultural and educational importance. 

The Director of Education Directive Department at the Mininstry, Al Madhahka emphasised that the resumption of teaching visual arts in the schools has made great strides, and has made its way into steady growth and tangible progress, as a result of modern educational methods and their practical applications. He said that the exhibition provides opportunity to discover and nurture students’ talent.

The Head of the Arts and Theatre Section at the Ministry, Suad Al Salim, said that pencil is selected for the Exhibition because students and teachers have good command on it.
