Doha: The Doha Round of the World Scholar’s Cup will take place on Friday at the International School of London Qatar. The event will bring together nearly 300 students from across Qatar for a celebration of learning. A large number of Doha’s leading international schools are expected to attend, including over 60 students from the International School of London.
Since its inception in 2007, The World Scholar’s Cup has become one of the most recognised, joyful, and fastest-growing extracurricular activities in the world. Although it may look at first glance like an academic competition, it is more aptly described as a celebration of learning — an inclusive enrichment experience in which students of all backgrounds work together to explore new subjects and practice new skills.
Events at the World Scholar’s Cup include: Team Debate (collaboration, persuasive rhetoric, public speaking), Collaborative Writing (teamwork, analysis, written communication). Scholar’s Bowl (fun, fast-paced group problem-solving) and Scholar’s Challenge (critical thinking, decision-making)
Participating scholars explore a wide range of interconnected topics —in 2016 they range from the study of crime and justice to the science of disease and public health. The exploration motivates thoughtful research and spirited discussion.
At least 10 teams in each division, junior (ages 10-14) and senior (ages 15+), will earn onward invitations to the 2016 Global Round in Thailand and the Czech Republic in June, which will bring together 2,500 students from more than 40 countries, and to a special year-end Tournament of Champions conference hosted by Yale University in the United States.
