Al Dosari Zoo plans expansion before 2022 Cup

Doha: Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve is planning to expand to welcome more visitors expected from the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Game Reserve and Zoo, which is one of the oldest such facilities in the country, is planning to add a new building that will house a new exhibition centre, VIP area and other facilities to attract more visitors.  

“We plan to expand Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve for the World Cup. We are planning to have a new building which will have an area of around 10,000sqm. The building will have a new exhibition centre,  VIP area, an education centre, labour camps and other facilities,” Mohamed Mater Aldosari, Owner and Director of Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve told The Peninsula. 

“The number of visitors coming to the park will increase that is why we are planning to expand the park,” he added. 

The expansion plans also setting up an education centre, veterinary clinic for animals, a gym among other facilities. 

The designs and other information related to the building is expected to be announced with in two months. 

The three-decade old Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve is hugely popular in Qatar among residents and the expansion will address the need of creating more space for growing number of visitors. 

“The average number of visitors coming to Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve is 170,000 per year while, on Friday, we receive 2,000 to 3,000 visitors,” said Aldosari. 

“Apart from residents, we keep on receiving many VIPs and high ranking official from all over the world,” he added. 

The zoo and game reserve has an animal safari park, a zoo, an amusement park, exhibition centre heritage and maritime museums, theatre area and a small market. 

There is an entry fee of QR10 per person. Those who do not own a vehicle can come through Karwa bus. 

There is also a plan to expand parking space for vehicles. “We have four parking and all these remain full. We plan to make a new parking space and a road on the backside of the park,” he added.

He is planning to approach the government to get the additional land to expand the park. 

“The zoo and game reserve is in operation since last 30 years. We have organic vegetable areas and nursery. We give saplings to students which they can plant in schools. We have veterinary doctors to look after animals in the zoo,” he said.
