Doha: Making his Qatar debut, Supercooled clinched the Thoroughbred Derby Trial with a breathtaking finish, completing a treble for Wathnan Racing, trainer Alban de Mieulle and jockey James Doyle at Al Uqda Racecourse yesterday.
The four-year-old colt surged late to edge out Aafoor, ridden by Szczepan Mazur, by a head in a nail-biting 2100m race that capped an exciting eight-race meeting.
The trio’s winning streak began earlier in the 1400m Local Thoroughbred Trial, where War Boy stormed from behind to claim a one-length victory. They followed up with a dominant performance by
Divana Chica, who secured the Purebred Arabian Oaks Trial title, winning the 2100m race by a length and a quarter.

Also shining yesterday was Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred Afjan, who defeated his stablemate and half-brother Al Zwair by a neck to claim the Purebred Arabian Derby Trial for trainer Jean de Mieulle and jockey Faleh Bughanaim.
Meanwhile, H H Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s homebred Aneed Al Shahania under Lukas Delozier won the National Derby Trial by two-and-a-half length, staying unbeaten on his second career start.
Led by Mazur, Khalid bin Ghanem M Al Kuwari-owned registered a dominant victory to capture the Thoroughbred Oaks Trial for trainer Hamad Al Jehani.
The win completed a double for jockey Mazur, who had earlier steered M H K Al Attiyah-trained AJS Najma to Local Purebred Arabian Oaks Trial triumph.
The day began with an exhilarating Thoroughbred Open Race, where Jefferson Smith guided Glitterati to a half-length triumph over Shadow Army, ridden by Doyle.
