Doha: Qatar’s Bouchema Kheirddine emerged on top in the Optimist class of the Sail Qatar 2014, the international regatta organised by Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation.
Yesterday, Kheirddine overcame the challenge of Kuwait’s Ali Al Failkawi to finish with the least number of penalty points at the end of the ten-race contest.
Abdulrhman Al Nasr of Qatar came third.
Another Qatari Abdulrahman Ajinah won the Laser 4.7 beating off competition from Suad Alassaf and Ameena Shah, both of Kuwait. The local sailors had more success with the Qatari pair of Hassan Al Baker and Mohamed Ismail winning Hobie 16 race.
In Laser RDL, Qatar’s Ali Al Muftah finished third behind two Kuwaitis, Ali Bohamoud and Mohammod Al Kandari.
Norway’s Haakon Haakonsen won the Laser STD, while the Portugal-Pakistan pair of Duarte Monteiro and Adeel Khan topped in 470. Sailors from 23 countries took part in the championship.
