According to a report by an NDTV journalist, many people were seen swinging out of their chairs into the air due to the impact. NDTV report quoted an official saying that the fair organisers had permission for the event till September 4, however, a board notifying the extension of the deadline was put up at the spot which mentioned September 11 as the deadline.
The newspaper Hindustan Times reported that there are five kids among the injured. It added that the eyewitnesses rushed the injured to the hospital as the fair had no ambulance at the venue.
Though the exact cause of the accident was unknown, a preliminary investigation blamed it on a technical snag resulting from a break in the belt that held the spinning wheel at its height. The Punjab police officials have filed an FIR against the owners for negligence.
