Doha: A large crowd turned out for the inaugural “Liwan for Good” on Tuesday to support the community-focused event, which raised money for local charities.

Chairperson of Qatar Museums H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and American artist Jeff Koons were among the notable individuals who attended the event.

Liwan Design Studios and Labs Director, Aisha bint Nasser Al Sowaidi said the event demonstrated the organisation’s dedication to its vision and Liwan’s commitment to giving back to society.

“Our goal is to provide a platform where members of the creative community can expand their network and positively impact the world around them.”

She said, “Liwan for Good is an excellent opportunity for Qatar’s creative community who are passionate about design, innovation, and social responsibility to come together to share ideas, and contribute to a good cause.”

The Ministry of Social Development and Family, Education Above All, and cats_etecetra are among the local charities that participated, and all proceeds from the event’s sales will go to these respective charities.

Education Above All (EAA) Together Project, Project Officer Bushra Mohammad Resham Khan said the proceeds will be allotted to tuition-free Assalam Schools, which have supported over 3,400 children across 31 communities in the country.

“It’s a month of giving so it’s really exciting to see all of us coming together from different walks of life and making sure we give back to the community.”

EAA’s booth featured stunning artworks by Assalam students.

Karim Jabbari’s magnificent “Light from the heart” light calligraphy performance was another highlight of the “Liwan for Good” event.

The calligrapher and artist said he wanted to show the beauty of Arabic letters through his arts. “I feel the Arabic letters are part of our history and heritage and I wanted to present it to the new generation so they can get this connection with the language of Quran, My show is basically trying to push people to dig deeper within themselves and find that guidance from Allah.”

“I used art as a medium to transmit my thoughts and ideas. My idea is to bring change in the world, the way I see it and the way I believe in it, so I think people can feel and I can sense that, so my art is bringing some change.” The event was held at Liwan Design Studios and Labs in Msheireb.
