SEATTLE: Super Bowl champions Seattle have rewarded coach Pete Carroll with a three-year contract extension, the Seahawks said on Friday.

Carroll led the Seahawks to a 13-3 record and their first Super Bowl triumph in a 2013 season capped by their 43-8 rout of the Denver Broncos in the NFL championship showcase in February.
The deal runs through the 2016 season and locks up the services of a coach who was entering the final season of a five-year deal he had signed prior to the 2010 campaign.
“This is a very special day,” Carroll said. “This is a day of gratitude for me. It’s really exciting because it’s a statement of our commitment, of our staying power.”
Carroll has a record of 38-26 during his four-year tenure with three play-off appearances, including two NFC West division titles.
The Seahawks, buoyed by emerging star quarterback Russell Wilson, have been especially dominant the past two years with a 24-8 mark.
“We’ve had a really good run and we think we’re in the middle of something special here,” Carroll said.
With the Super Bowl victory, Carroll joined Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer as the only coaches to win both a collegiate national championship and a Super Bowl title. He guided the University of Southern California to a pair of college championships during a highly successful nine-year run before taking the Seahawks’ job.
